Learning languages with MUZZY?

Is anyone teaching their children languages using the MUZZY DVDs? We are thinking about using them with our little girl. Do you use the same DVDs up until they are 11/12? Or do you need to get new ones for different age groups?

  1. In my opinion, the MUZZY DVDs are not worth the $200 they charge for them. It consists of 2 DVDs, each about 90 minutes long. There's a CD of the "soundtrack", and a DVD-rom of games (not that we've used that yet.) The story is fun, the material good... there just isn't enough to justify the price tag.
  2. Hi there, To be honest, I do not beleive that you need the DVD's to encourage a different language in your child. My son is 3 and doughter is 4 and they know certain phrases and words and numbers, colours ect in French German and Spanish. Programmes like Dora and Go Diego Go! are great for that age group. Alsso, it is really worth sitting down with them, and just randomly saying " Good Morning! did you know that good morning in French is Bon Matin? Can you say that?" If they manage to copy you, even if it is close, praise them to the hilt. If you are not much of a linguist, there are plenty of resources on the net where you can learn little bits. Good luck. Hope this helps.
  3. It's a bit lonely to learn with a dvd... have you thought about subscribing your children to some language clubs such as "la jolie ronde" or "le club francais"? They would get their own CD and book... and also have lots of fun with other children!
